By Netball Australia

Australian Diamonds and Melbourne Vixens co-captain Sharelle McMahon has stolen the show at the 2009 Victorian Sports Awards claiming the titles of Female Athlete of the Year and the Governor’s Award for Sportsperson of the Year.

The Governors Award is presented to the Victorian Athlete who has achieved outstanding sporting performances and has also made a significant contribution to sport as a leader and role model.

It capped of a great night for the Melbourne Vixens who were also named 2009 Victorian Women’s Team of the year a worthy recognition of their exceptional year in the ANZ Championship.

McMahon received both awards after a stellar season which saw her become the first Victorian, and only the third Australia to play 100 Tests for Australia. She also won the Melbourne Vixens` Best and Fairest and was named Best on Court in the ANZ Championship final.

Vixens` coach Julie Hoornweg was only narrowly pipped at the post for the mantle of Coach of the Year, by Bushrangers` coach Greg Shipperd.
